Redefining urban mobility means thinking far beyond environmentally conscious and agile driving. The result: With its visionary design, the BMW i3 design defines the automobile of tomorrow. Its innovative eDrive transmission was designed in the scope of the BMW EfficientDynamics technology and is not only emission-free, but also offers an incomparable and nearly silent driving experience. The intelligent ConnectedDrive Services bring you conveniently to your destination. The BMW i3 makes fully-electric driving possible in everyday life. The lithium ion high-voltage battery, in combination with a dynamic electric motor, and intelligent energy management provides for high ranges and an agile driving experience.
To celebrate this victory, we want to highlight 3 awesome benefits of driving a BMW i3.
- 1. It is Practical for Driving in The City.
This vehicle didn’t win World Urban Car of The Year for nothing! The BMW i3 makes fully-electric driving possible in everyday life. The lithium ion high-voltage battery, in combination with a dynamic electric motor, and intelligent energy management provides for high ranges and an agile driving experience. It will get you to the gym in the morning, to work right after, to the mall for some pre-dinner shopping, to the restaurant you made reservations at and all the way back home with no issues. On average we travel between 35 and 50 km per day by car. The BMW i3 is now available in two model options: the established BMW i3 (60 Ah) with a NEDC range of up to 190 km (New European Driving Cycle). Also available is the BMW i3 (94 Ah) with an operating radius NEDC of up to 300 km (200 km in everyday operation). Both models exceed the average daily driving distance by three or four times. If required, drivers have the option to opt for a BMW i3 with a Range Extender. The small and quiet two-cylinder petrol engine drives a generator that switches on automatically when required, maintaining the charge level of the battery at a constant level! This is what we call practicality at its best!
2. Charging is Fast and Convenient
An innovative charging concept provides for a new dimension of electromobility: The BMW i3 can not only be charged quickly, easily and conveniently at home using the BMW i Charging Station or the home charging cable, it can also be charged on the go from a continuously increasing number of public charging stations. The BMW i3 finds these public charging stations easily via innovative BMW ConnectedDrive Services, such as the fully networked BMW I Navigation with display of the dynamic range and charging stations.
3. Sustainable From Start to Finish
The interior of the BMW i3 sets a new standard here and makes sustainability tangible. It takes more than just zero-emission motoring to drive sustainable change in the world. So when we designed the value chain for the BMW i3, we did so with a focus on sustainability from start to finish- from the development stage onwards and throughout the production process. That means you can be sure that the driving pleasure you experience at the wheel of your BMW i3 is fully sustainable. In fact, did you know that up to 95% of the BMW i3 is recyclable?
Components of this vehicle are made of 30% kenaf. Using kenaf for interior surfaces allows us to substitute petroleum-based plastics and reduce the overall weight of the BMW i3, because kenaf fibres are up to 30% lighter than conventional materials. They add an authentic touch to the overall sustainability concept of the BMW i3. This extremely lightweight material is extracted from the mallow plant, which converts an above-average volume of CO2 to oxygen as it grows.
Seats With 40% Pure New Wool
One renewable material that offers a high level of comfort is certified pure new wool. In the Lodge interior design package, this accounts for 40% of the material in the seat covers. The wool blend is breathable, helping to regulate the temperature between the seat cover and the occupant. As a result, the seats remain pleasantly cool, even on hot days.
Interior Trim in Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is naturally resistant to moisture. That means it needs around 90% less surface finishing than more traditional types of wood. As it is processed without chemicals, the soft texture and natural open pores of the wood remain intact. Eucalyptus are one of the fastest-growing species of tree in existence, which makes eucalyptus ideal for series production. All wood in the BMW i3 is sources from 100% FSC-certified forestry, helping to safeguard sustainable forest management.
100% Olive-Leaf-Tanned Leather
The leather in the BMW i3 is 100% tanned with natural extracts of olive leaves. This has several advantages: olive leaves are otherwise just a by-product of olive farming, and this puts them to good use. The tanning process itself is environmentally compatible and, last but not least, it preserves the intrinsic shine of the leather and its natural ability to regulate temperatures. Renewable and recycled materials help protect the environment and replace conventional materials such as plastic.
